Kitchen Island Pendant

When we built our house, there were several things that we knew would be projects. Blinds, hardwood floors, ceiling fans, the backyard. We would wander around big box stores, home improvement stores and even antique markets, searching for pieces that would add the warmth and character that our new home would need.

While wandering around the antique market, we came across these amazing hand built island pendants. Made from vintage edison bulbs and rustic wood, they caught our eye, but at $400 there was no way we would be taking one home.

After we moved in and the ceiling fans were hung and the blinds were installed, we turned our attention back to the empty space where we had pre-wired for a light over the kitchen island.  I began searching online, hoping to find something. Then my husband brought home this piece of lumber. More specifically, he dumpster dived it from the house they were still building across the street. Upon my inquiry, he informed me he was going to BUILD me a variation of the pendant that we loved.

The final product involved 3 Mega Edisons. We bought ours at World Market. A triple island pre-wire kit, also from World Market, the ceiling medallian and chain from the local Home Improvement Store, a couple of bolts left over from something else and the lumber from the dumpster across the street.

It is now one of my favorite parts of our home and adds so much warmth and character to our space.
